[T3] '71 Turn signal mech

Hey all,
I just got my turn signals replaced, (and the relay). I've now found that the plastic lever switch has crumbled to dust (as much of the plastic parts do in Arizona). 
The Chirco catalog, (that's my local VW shop here in Tucson) says they have T3 signal switches for 68-69 and 72-73. Was there a remarkable difference between years, or should I be able to make the 69 work with the '71 horn and column diameter?
On a seperate note, I haven't found a headlight dimmer, is that also part of this mechanism? I notice 2 extra contacts to brown wires.
