Most 60s and 70s British cars have the turn lever on the right, so I guess
for some reason it was considered better for RHD to do it that way - that
would tie in with the Japanese cars.  Presumably once the UK became a major
importer of European cars (and the motor industry bought up by USA and
continental companies), it became standardised on the left lever.
