I think the "plug" I'm feeling is actually the top of the thermostat
recessed in the mixer box.

It sounds like its possible that the elbows came off mine when the hoses
fell off or were pulled off. How many screws hold the elbows to the mixer
box and where do they attach? Also, is the paper hose the same ID as the
carb pre-heater hose for the late model busses?
