Re: [T3] 61 Notchback?
I always assumed that the type3 model year followed that of both the types 1 &
2. It would be a bit strange if VW made another model year calendar for the
type3, IMHO. VW introduced the August-July model year in 1960, according to my
old book. (Norwegian book from 1967, "The history of the peoples car" by Peer
Gretland. The info in the foreword states that this book is almost
revolutionary, because the author was the first to ever be allowed into the
Daimler-Benz archives to search for VW material.)
It is of course true that the type3 started out in April 1961, so my bet would
be that m.y. 1961 ranged from apr 1961 to 31. July 1961 and that m.y. 1962
started 1. aug. 1961. This old book does not give any numbers for the calendar
year, only for the model year, so there must be a clear difference here. Also
the given number for the 1961 m.y. (2061 units) could be an indication of only 4
months of production in the first m.y.
