All this is unnecessary if your standard generator charging system is 
working correctly. Yes, the generator is only rated at 30A, but 
that's all the car needs. Alternators will put out more power at idle 
than generators, but that is seldom the complaint. If you have 
charging system problems I have a FAQ I can send you that explains 
how to troubleshoot your charging system.

VW introduced lots of ground wires in 69. That fixed LOTS of weak 
light complaints; note that new hot wires will not fix this, but you 
COULD add grounds some way and actually accomplish something.

Poor heat in older aircooled VW is primarily a problem with parts of 
the BODY rusting away. The heat exchangers do rust out, but by then 
they're usually moot.
