[T3] BAD bad problem (long)

my car hates me, I dont know why . all i know is it wont start and i had to
leave him in a Backwoods South Carolina parking lot far away from me and I
hope it is still intact when i go get it in the morning.
 Here is the lowdown.
The car: 1971 vw fastback , automatic transmission , Fuel injected

About 2 weeks ago I went to Tenn. to visit a friend . I drove through the
mountians and all of a sudden the car would drag and bog down as if it were
not getting gas or enough spark , i pulled into a gas station to get gas
and the gas cap was stuck like it had been glued on , i had to pry it off
and the tank let out a sigh of relief. This was the first time it did that
to me and it has continued to do that but only in the mountians. So i left
the cap loose and all was well.
A week later I go to look at some fastbacks across state lines and the
suction thing starts again. So I loosen the cap and all is well. On the way
back it starts draging and spitting when I accelerate and mpg is way down.
Its not the gas cap so I check the points and they are nasty . I replace the
points and every thing is great. I figure i should replace the cheapo old
Coil with a bosch coil. The next day my wife drives the car for about 2
hours around town and then it starts the boging down thing again. So
naturally no store in Franklin NC has a bosch coil so I put a used one I
know was good on it and things are fine. We drive the car to Charlotte NC
(about 4 hours) and every thing is fine.
The next day it starts bogging and draging again after driving it for about
an hour on the interstate. I put the coil from my bus on the car and every
thing is good. That lasts for about 2 day untill it starts acting up again.
I check the points and they still look good and are gapped correctly. I buy
a new coil for the car and put the busses coil to the bus. Now the buss runs
just fine with that coil back on it.
Last night i put the new coil on the car and adjusted the valves . As far as
I can tell , all FI connetions on the motor are clean and connected well.
Today I left Charlotte , bound for Franklin NC. The car ran great from
Charlotte to the BMW plant in Spartanburg SC, About and hour and half of
interstate driving doing about 75mph. When I left the bmw plant I drove for
about half an hour and it started acting up. Draging , cuttiing out, as if
it is getting no spark or no gass. I pulled over and checked the
connections on the VR and in the fusebox, I cleaned the posts on the
battery. I left and drove for almost an hour before it started acting up
and then nursed it for another half an hour untill it wouldnt go up hills
anymore. In park it would idle and run fine at low rpms but would bog down
when accelerated . I turned it off to clean some wires and then it would
not start up again. If you crank it and pump the pedal it tries to start
but doesnt catck , I sprayed some WD-40 in the intake and it would do the
same thing. I checked the points and they are still good but is is getting
very weak spark at the plug. I pulled the plugs and they are fine as well.
It is getting gas when you turn the pump on .

Any ideas?
Thank so much in advance...
