[T3] Type 3 & Type 1 Cooling Systems

Just a question I would like to raise about the Type 3 vs the Type 1 cooling
systems. There is a lot of talk about engine swaps (using Type 4 engines
etc...)

As far as I understand the Type 1 (Beetle) has a Ducted Outlet type cooling
system - this is whey the bottom of the beetle engine compartment has all
the sealing tin around it. & the intake grille is high up below the rear
window - so you wont suck the hot air that has been exhausted under the
motor back thru the engine & overheat.
On the other hand the Type 3 (Fastback Squareback Notch etc..) has a Ducted
Inlet type cooling sytem - the car sucks the cool air in the side vents & it
is suchked into the engine from behind ( Thru the rubber bellows at the back
of the engine compartment & then exhausted below the motor.

>From this as I understand the following:
If you run a beetle with a Baja conversion & you do not fit the fibreglass
intake grille cover supplied with the kit you run the risk of overheating
the motor.
If You run a Type 3 without the rubber bellows installed at the back of the
motor it will overheat.
If you run a Type 3 motor in a Buggy or Sandrail it will also overheat.

The one I am not too sure about is the Type 4 system - I have never looked
at them in detail.

Anybody got any comments; agree/disagree?
