I had a dealer-installed one in my 68. It was just activated by an
internal mercury switch. It worked fine, but I didn't care for the
way it was installed. It was NOT a VW part, more of a J C Whitney
level generic automotive accessory.
Eventually, however, it got pushed out of position and stayed on all
the time. That caused me ~6 months of run down battery problems
(didn't drive every day) so that when I eventually discovered the
cause I just removed it.
I realized that while it was one of those things that seemed
appealing, I had never really needed it and it had caused me a GREAT
deal of aggravation.
I may still have it around if someone else would like to pay
something for that same aggravation.... ;-)
