Ive used the red RTV at the heaterbox outlets for years.  IT will take the
heat but the key is applying it to a clean surface and no rely on it to plug
large holes against exaust pressure.  Not sure if it will take the cylinder
head heat but I THINK so.

I also use a VERY thin layer to seal the pushrod tube seals and crankcase
halves.  At 70K I have NO engine oil leaks.
