It happened again. Same friend in the car with me, too. (He's been banished.) We didn't have to push as I figured out how to start the car by bridging the solenoid and the hot lead. Solenoid and starter are good and as far as I can tell we are making clean contact at the neutral safety switch. Jim, you mentioned replacing the brass. I am assuming that you mean the spring loaded piece that is attached to the gear selector, is this correct or do you resurface the contact patches on the switch. I also think that the switch in my car is from the wrong year. There are two mounting holes for the switch, but only one lines up and the alignment is pretty bad (the reverse lights only come on between Park and Reverse). I've already tried to find one locally, to no avail. Anybody got a neutral safety switch for a 1970 Square? I hope I can find it soon as climbing under the car to start it is a pain in the neck (literally). The part number off the one in my car is 311 927 147 B (the B may actually be an R its hard to tell). I've been looking at the switch itself, it appears that if I connect the right wires I should be able to disable the safety feature temporarily, however I've not been successful at doing this. I'm beginning to think that it could actually be in the ignition switch, but the fact that jiggling worked last time leads me to believe its in the safety switch. Any ideas on how to check this. I also need to find a shop manual for this car none of the local parts stores seem to have it. Any help would be great. ------------------------------------------------------------------- Too much?
