RE: [T3] a q for toby about hoses

Yes, the hose is very tough and can spend, literally, years in close
proximity of the exhaust headers. However, I had adapters made to slip over
the fan housing and 90-deg. adapters for the heat exchangers. The hose then
slipped over and clamped to the adapters. Any muffler shop can make them
(that's where I had mine done). I showed the dude the hose and said I need
to clamp the hose to one end of the pipe (adapter) and have the other end of
the pipe expanded to slip over the fan housing. Same for the heat exchanger
but [cut and welded] at a 90-deg. angle. The fan housing adapters are held
in with a sheet metal screw and the exchanger adapters are held down by a
large hose clamp.

Unfortunately I don't have any pictures of the set up nor do I know the
manufacturer or part number of the hose. I've had the hoses on my car for
over 5 years and they're still solid! I used 2" ID (inside diameter)
generic hose from an auto parts store...Napa, I think. Just go to the
stores hose isle and look through them. The package will say if it's
fiberglass impregnated.

I know from first-hand experience that the aluminum-style are crappy (in my
previous 1641cc they would barely last 6 months) and the flexible plastic
ones will instantly melt and disintegrate if they come too close to the
exhaust header. Hmmm, I really need to take some pictures of it.
