Actually, You're partly right, the generator only produces electricity when the battery gets discharged somewhat. So when the battery's fully charged, it doesn't take much mechanical power at all from the engine. Energy's conserved- when you've got the lights, fan, rear defogger adn those 500 watt driving lights on, it will load the engine significantly! So how much power does that electric 'blower suck, anyhow?
