Hi gang. I am no longer a VW virgin. I did my first full tune up on my 71 Fastback and it only took 2 full days of sunlight! I have never seen valves so loose, timing so off, brakes so screwy, plugs so nasty, points so pitted, and to top it off my generator light came on. As it turns out, my brushes are being eaten away to nothing! Everyone I talk to says it is the voltage regulator. I couldn't register any voltage on the darn thing, and the only way to get the gen. to work was to push down on the brushes! In 5 days I have replaced the brushes 3 times. So tell me, friends....armature? V.R.? cheap brushes? me? Also, knocking left rear of car. I know the wheel cylinder has a leak, but could it be the CV joint? what if the boot were leaking grease?
