If you look closely at the parts sold in auto parts stores in the last 15-20 years you will see that they are nowhere near the quality of our OE cables. There is less copper in the cable and the ring lug on the starter end is just a cheap thin piece of barely flattened steel tubing. Look through the punched hole in the starter end and see just how little copper there is there and how poorly that part is made. Yes, if your old one is corroded through then you can improve things by installing one of these, but you will be FAR better off if you can find an old one from a type 3 or a bug in a junkyard.
