first, get a test light at the FLAPS. also, never just twist wire and then tape it. buy spade crimp style connectors. the best ones are insulated on both the female and male ends. use a real crimping tool so that you get a good solid connection. about which wire goes where: modern stereos are more complicated than old ones, and they have a lot more wires, but you don't need to use all of them. the most important are the power, the power switch, and the ground (anfd the speakers, of course). use the test light to figure out which wires on your fuse block are switched and which are not. the ground connection should be solid, so you may want to find a good place to screw one to the body under the dash.
