Okay Y'all, my first "snafu" in this type4 into type3 conversion. As we all know - I'm going to get all the benefits of an alternator now... big whoop.. anyhow.. in looking over the wiring situation I seem to have become... corn-fused. On the old generator - we have 2 wires - very simple - heavy red and the skinny green wire. On the rear of this alternator I have 4 ( count 'em... 4 ) wires - heavy red ( B+ ), green (df), red (d+), orange (d-) AND !! I have a regulator.... odd as it is..... only 3 spade connectors on it.... d+, df and d-........ no "outs" - as it were...... it looks like it only accepts spade connectors in... where do I go from here ? In this months Hot VW's and chicks in the tech questions section someone asks about a gen. to alt. conversion and the staff at HVW's advises to connect the old heavy red wire to B+ off the alt. and d+ to the old skinny green wire and then where the old regulator was - splice the skinny green wire to the skinny blue wire and connect the heavy red wire to the other heavy reds.......so... do I not need the "new" regulator with all the ins and no outs ??? haaaallllpppppppp !!
