They work fine, but the type 3 ones are hard to come by.

Type 3 hoses are expanding metal, while the type 1s are usually a
flexible plastic bellows. The type 1 parts appear to be much more
durable. I have always hoped to find a type 1 style that I could
substitute for ours so I could have something that did not rust solid
and break whenever I needed to remove an engine.
