This is not a particularly important point, but you want to shoot for 
TDC when you're adjusting the valves.

This will be right at the point were the points are just opening, but 
ignore that. Shoot for TDC and don't worry about the ignition timing 
now. This is valve adjustment; it doesn't affect timing.

Right, except that I hope you mean 180 deg.

Ah-HA! You really DID mean 90 crankshaft deg, didn't you? IRNÿÛd 
it right, then you would move over exactly one lobe on the cam and 
the points would look exactly the same as before, just one lobe over.

The dist runs 1/2 as fast an 1/2 as far as the crank, so to adjust 
all 4 cyls you must run the dist around 1 full turn, or the crank 2 
full turns.

As seen from the rear of the car, I expect to see #1 at about 4-5 
o'clock. Are you using a type 3 dist?
