It's not recommended by VW, but I suspect that's with those "booster start and charge" devices that produce lots more than 12 Volts. I can't see how connecting two batteries in parallel then trying to start should cause a pr>º¯ BTW, it's wise to make the last (negative) connection to the chassis not the battery terminal (stops sparks blowing up the explosive gases in the battery).
