Hey Volks,
Got a quick question that I need some help with. Recently purchased a
'72 Fasty converted to dual carbs (entire engine swap, I think). Anyway, PO
said that the car ran fine, but had some major oil leaks. Starte it up,
drove around , ran fine but with the oil leaks pretty obvious. I bought the
car and knew that I would have to, at least, put a gasket kit on all of the
major outer portions.
Drove the car a small bit when I got it home, again running fine, but
with severe leakage. Decided to pull the engine last week in order to
install the gaskets. Here's the problem....
As I'm draining the crankcase, the oil is coming out REALLY fast.
Thought this was a bit odd, since the car hadn't been started in a while.
Put my fingers in the stream and bring it to my nose, STRONG gas smell.
Other than a) a bad seal at the fuel pump (mechanical) and how do I
confirm, or b) PO putting gas in the oil tube, how could gas have gotten in
the crankcase?
Also, I said the car started / ran fine, what's the possibility of me
having caused major damage to the innards?
Any help appreciated.
