I've stored cars for several years at a time with no effects. In fact I've never had a problem, so I don't really know when one might actually expect to have trouble. This might just be luck or the fact that I make an effort to do this with a completely full tank. I am suspicious that much of what gets said on this topic is just repeated hearsay. The gas line full of curd could well have something to do with a tank full of water due to a broken overflow hose. This IS extremely common.
