As for "way past spec" I suspect that I spent a significant amount of time there myself, but I only had the small 88 bhp engine & AT so maybe this kept me out of trouble. And then maybe I was just lucky. There were lots of scare stories about the heaters, but we never had any trouble. I don't recall if that was part of "Unsafe at Any Speed"; it's been a long time since I read it. I think I actually have an autographed copy here somewhere! I should check it out.
