UK spec. for later Type 3s:-  1600L is twin carb Variant with side trim,
carpets, nicer interior rear side trim, stainless vent wings, locking glove
box, and maybe a few other things I've forgotten.  PerL has it covered
pretty well.  Rarely imported - special order only.  1600E is Fuel
injection Variant, and has the side trim plus carpets.  1600TE (badged
1600E) is similar spec to 1600E Variant but a Fastback.  There's probably a
1600E Notch, but they're even less often
ordered here.
I expect the L was more than the extra for E.  Carbs is probably a better
bet here, since there are fewer spare FI systems, and plenty of carbs
around.
