I used to be a tire salesman and where I worked it was like this: We had tires made by cooper and I thought they were pretty decent. I would much rather use a Dunlop though. There are two specific warranties. The MFG mileage warranty and the Road Hazard warranty. The mileage warranty is basically a warranty that says they will last x amount of miles free from manufacturing defects and they will not wear below the warning bar in the same x amount of miles. If they wear out sooner than expected and there is nothing wrong with your alignment then they will prorate your tires based on what they actually lasted. The road hazard insurance is insurance against blowing out a tire or getting a nail. We would replace a tire free if it was blown out or fix any punctures that were repairable for free. I recommend this insurance if you have expensive tires. I have sold tires to someone that cost $300 each and had them come back the next day with a nail in the sidewall. Which was not repairable due to company liability reasons. Had they spent the $7.50 the tire would have been free. Besides that it put two bucks in my pocket for every tire road hazard was sold on. 8*) BTW Les SChwab out here offers free road hazard on their tires. I even had them warranty a blown tire on a car I just bought. I didn't even buy the tires there. They were purchased by the PO. The tire guy said who cares who bought tÛáÐ/ were bought here so we'll replace it for free. Needless to say I was a happy camper!
