Hello everyone!!! Its been forever since I been on here. I still trying to get another computer going on so i can read my mail while i talk on the C.B. Radio so its still hard for me to be on here all of the time. I'll fill you all in on my pa›dƒ ths of being gone! We've been driving my 73 Squareback around since i wrecked my beautiful 71 into a tree in sept.98 And only clocked 1,200 miles on it in a year (From Apr.98 to Apr.99!) and been driving it alittle but more. Im getting ready for a brake job on that car. But anyway, I finally sold my 68 beetle that was solid as hell and hated to see that go. I had surgery about a month or so ago and been recooperating. but in the running there was a Lt. Blue 71 three blocks up the road, Fuel Injected Automatic so im now messing with the two things i never experienced before (Injection & Automatic) And the car isnt running at the moment. But for $250 i couldnt pass up the nice looking (Not extremely now, But tolerable) body. and great interior. and the braked were frozen up. So I jacked the car and got the rust loose on each wheel but the front passenger was locked up. So i was going to take it apart. While i was taking the lug nuts/bolts out on the last and final one it snapped loose so I just said the hell with it and put the other 3 back in and chained it three blocks up the road to my house (Talk about a lucky day!) So now i've been troubleshooting my VW with this awesome manual from 1974 that has how to troubleshoot fuel injection and so the electrical part if sound but no fuel delivery is happening. I was going to get a used fuel pump from a friend (60 year old VW friend) when he told me,***(And this was a good motivating tip)*** He said "The fuel pumps (Fuel injection im talking here) come apart from the top where the 3 nozzles come apart and inside its like a ROTARY PUMP TYPE MECHANISM. Take the 5 tits (Little metal pieces) that fit in this 5 point star looking thing and put it all on a rag because there may be gas coming out the little metal tit things will go every where and you dont want to loose them. So having 2 extra pumps not counting the one all ready on the car i took two apart and then took the one off of the car and out of the three i have one good working pump that wasnt all funky ‹Z rely grimed. So i cleaned all the small half microscopic parts off (well they seem damn small) and re-assembled it. (Makeing sure its exactly put back together properly and noting how it somes apart. (If your not paying attention you can put it back together wrong and it will still run.) So now its on my car working. All of my fuel lines are off and my Stupid A** forgot what lines go where and stuff. Because the person that put it together originally anyway didnt do it right anyway. ************************************* So this is where I need help And I hope i revealed with the fuel pump something that may save someone $300 bucks down the line. But anyway there are three letters on the fuel pump. ! ! ! R D S [ fuel ] [pump] [ ] \_____/ Now looking at the front of the car where the two fuel lines go thru the body I need to know where the left line goes and the right one. To the filter (and the flow of fuel), The little oval piece, in and out of the pump and so on. So speaking this into words is going to be difficult. And i know this is incomplete and probably wrong so lets give it a shot. #1 From the left line going into the car I have that line going to a Y. And it Y's off to the left hook up on the tank and goes into the letter (R) input on the pump. And i think the (R) is where the fuel is sucked into the pump.?????? #2 From the right line going into the car it goes thru the H-beam thru that little filter looking thing to the middle of the pump (D) and on my diagram i see something that goes on the right hook up on the tank but thats thru the fuel filter bolted to the fuel pump going to the (S) and to the right side or thru the Hbeam filter thing or something. So as you can see im lost! Can SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME!! Im almost there! and im lost. It dont have this part in my book so Im relying on you all to help me! Thanks a million Type 3 list and all the T3 people left in this world. If there wasnt type 3's we all would be stuck with beetles! hehe!
