My guess is that the 1 of the rears overheated and boiled the fluid, 
leaving you compressing vapor with the pedal. The rears can overheat 
because they are dragging all the time, just a bit. There can be 
several possible causes of this.

You could have the rear brakes adjusted too tight. There could not be 
any brake pedal free play. The brake pedal could be sticking and not 
<fg all the way. 

What you should have done is felt each rotor/drum to see which one 
burned your fingers. That would have been a very big clue.
