Okay, in that case I think there are only 2 different ones: the one used in type 1s, (early) 2s, and 3s, and the one used in the type 4 engine. I don't think the type 4 drive shaft will even fit, so you don't have a problem here. > If that doesn't, would there be anything wrong with setting the dist. drive > shaft one tooth clockwise from 60 degrees so i could get the timing to 5 > BTDC? No, that might be what you need. I have found that the pictures in the books are not quite right, but you will find that 1 tooth is a big change and may be too much. Do you have the plug wires connected to the right places? Did you know that the upper edge of the dist housing is marked with a scribe line at the position where #1 is supposed to go. If you have rotatedÇòq es one position, you might be just trying to undo that error. > Someone around here suggested that i could have the crank and the cam not > timed right, you know with the dots i must line up. But then again, someone > else here said i wouldn't even get it to run if that happened. I've never done it, but I think it would run. I have gone back several times to make sure that I had done that correctly. It has never been wrong, but I understand what's eatin' you.
