Just a note to anyone out there thinking about replacing brake parts: If you replace your old parts with new/rebuilt parts and keep your old parts thinking that you will rebuild them or just take them apart someday, here's something you should know. Old brake parts left sitting around, even indoors, will turn into a solid block of rust inside if they had standard DoT 3 or 4 brake fluid in them. There is no point in saving such parts for later. Parts which have had DoT 5 Silicone Brake Fluid will be fine. If you have any original German parts which you don't plan to rebuild right away I will pay shipping to send them here if you would prefer for them not to go to waste. Here's what I will accept: German ATe calipers, both early and late ATe master cylinders ATe or FAG rear wheel cylinders. Consider doing this instead of letting them go to waste. I will recycle everything, one way or another. At least this way someone will benefit from your parts eventually, and I can offer the list correctly rebuilt parts for later. Email me if you have anything to offer. In a related topic, I have 3 ATE original style (2 retaining pin) type 1 Karman Ghia brake calipers that I have gotten over the years off cars where they had been mistakenly installed on early type 3s. They don't work right on our cars because they have a 40 mm piston instead of a 42. The unfortunate part is that all 3 are RIGHTS! If anyone out there is trying to restore old KGs and is interested in these, they are rebuilt and available. Email me.
