Spent some time with my Fasty this weekend. Still in the rust discovery mode. 8^( I drained the gas tank and pulled it. The bottom of my plenum is pretty much rusted out. To the outside, not the interior. I just have really big drain holes now. The more I look around and the more parts I take off, the more rust I find. I don't think it is DeathRust, but I am typically very optimistic. I am seŞ_Ç starting to consider a "pan-off" restoration. The pan looks pretty solid, it is just the bottom 2" or so of the body that needs work. Back to the gas tank. There was a bunch of grit in the bottom, but the fuel looked pretty good. The mounting flange for the tank has some surface rust, nothing major. I want to eliminate the fuel filler door and relocate the filler neck inside the trunk like the early cars. BUT, my Fasty is injected and will stay that way, so I can't simply find an older style tank. I am thinking about a racing fuel cell. Summit Racing has some that will fit in the opening, but will be taller than stock. Besides the obvious loss of trunk space, what others thing do I need to consider in going this route?
