[T3] Attaching Seals

Hey all -

These recent threads about attaching your seals with contact
cement and other messy, sticky adhesives......there is a better,
neater, easier way.

There is something called double sided, acrylic foam tape. This
stuff is used by all of the major auto manufacturers to hold side
molding trim and seals on new cars. The stuff is very strong and
very durable. It can usually be found at your FLAPS, but will be
pretty pricey. 3M is the major manufacturer of the stuff and you
can buy generic weatherstripping with the tape already on the
back.

I used the stuff on prototype cars at Ford all the time. Good
stuff. Check with a body shop supply house to get the stuff in
bulk rolls.

Application is easy. Simply make sure the painted surface is
clean, dry and oil free. Start peeling off one side of the
backing for the tape and stick it to the painted surface. Work
your way around the sealing su*z’ressing the tape down
firmly. When completed, simply start peeling off the second
backing material and sticking your seal to it. Work your way
around again and you are done. Simple and clean.

CAUTION: This tape is not meant to be repositionable, so be
careful putting it down.
