[T3] own a piece of T3 history

	Well, sort of.

I've been driving VWs for about twelve years; started with Beetles.
I didn't want to 9solid '63 with me when I moved from CA to MI due
to the rust, so I bought this rough '71 Squareback from a friend for cheap.

About the time that this whole Web deal started to gear up about
five years ago, I had become taken by the Type III. My '71 had seen a
couple of salty winters by that point (and had acquired a few extra colors,
too;). I decided to throw together some T3 info on the Web to counter the
mis-information that's prevalent in mags & repair shops & clubs. I called
it "The VW Type III Owner's Manual" and put it on my Web pages at UM.

Well, one thing led to another... the first version of this list,
then VWType3.Org and the current list, etc. Meanwhile, the '71 rusted to
uselessness. I'm moving to California in a matter of weeks, and I can't
take it with me.

I'm open to suggestions. A fellow not too far from here has a
pan-less Notch, and my Square's pans are actually pretty good (except for
the battery spot). Where the '71 is hosed is primarily the wheel wells
(there aren't any wheel wells any more in the rear) and the heater channels
(what heater channels?).

	My options:

	o have it towed away
o strip it, have shell towed, sell bits at show in a few weeks,
throw awsay remainders
o get it to this guy w/ the panless Notch, maybe keep some bits for
myself
o use a sawzall to chop the whole thing into bits, take to
recycling center (my preference, but time may prevent!)
o put an ad in the paper, $100 takes it

I haven't really driven it much at all since the fall. I'd fire it
up every couple of weeks or so, take it to the store occasionally. The
last month or two, it's been firing on three cylinders, I think. (I
suspect an injector electrical connection, but this is unconfirmed.) The
damn thing'll do an indicated 90mph. Used, but relatively new: Gene Berg
single quiet pack, calipers, master cylinder, generator. Engine: about
50,000 miles on align-bored rebuild w/ new heads, pistons & cylinders.
Fuel injected, of course! Manifold pressure sensor is off of a '72, the
rewfght for '71.

Hey, if I'd never bought this car from Teresa in the first place, I
seriously doubt that VWType3.Org would exist. Anybody want a piece of
"history"? Any good suggestions? I probably don't have the time to figure
out why it suddenly quit firing on #4, so I'll have to go with some sort of
exit *not* under its own power (though it'll putter around the parking lot
here). The car is in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

'63 Beetle (dry storage, L.A.)
'69 Squareback (you'd have to steal it or smash it to make us part)
'70 Bus (my first Busperience)
'71 Squareback (plaque-winning show car two years ago, it's taken us to 28
of 50 U.S. states, first auto my daughter rode in @ 7 days old, my wife got
her license in it, currently unsafe to drive due to rust... you get the
picture <sniff>)
