Here's a bummer. Now, the '69 will sporadically go low on ATF. I couldn't really make a "rule" that fit... high speed, low speed, time, cool weather, hot weather. It will go months & months without needing fluid, and then will need a fair amount all of a sudden. While the pan was often a bit wet, there were no obvious drips. Well! I had the passenger side jacked up for quite a while yesterday as I worked on the RF brakes. After getting that all together, and while the car was still jacked up on that side, I went to the right rear to adjust the shoes and begin bleeding the system. Ack! Drip - drip - drip from the edge of the AT pan. Figured it was loose pan bolts, but no go. I trace the drips up, and find that the leak's coming from where the filler tube enters the trans. Hey! The tube hold-down bolt is sticking up a millimeter or two! Lemme just tighten it... Well, it appears as though that bad boy is STRIPPED. Argh. Has this happened to anyone before? Any good solutions other than putting a "this end up" sticker on the left side of the car? It only leaks when the right side of the car is higher than the left. The sporadic leak clearly must only happen when I've parked it on a slope, I now see. It looks like it would be quite a bear to do a proper tap job on that hole while the tranny is in theaî here's just a single bolt to hold down the filler, not two like on the oil filler. Also, I fear metal shavings due to tapping getting into the AT. Yuck. Any wisdom, anyone? Why would this have happened in the first place? A careless engine pull where somebody tried to remove the AT filler tube along with the engine? -Greg ------------------------------------------------------------------- Too much?
