[T3] objective opinions desired

right, here's the story:
69 square, FI, AT.
looks like the AT is about to go any day.
170k miles on original (never rebuilt) engine ==> will need rebuilt soon.
doesn't idle when warm, and i've been working on this for months.
badly needs paint, and a driver's door.
needs headliner.
seatcovers and carpet aren't up to much either.
no rust really.

if i keep it, i'm looking at ~$1000 for a rebuilt tranny.
and another ~$1000 for an engine rebuild.
that's just to get it going.
then there's paint, a door, headliner, and whatever else.

OR, i can take it down to the local pick-n-pull and get $500 for it, by virtue
of it starting, moving back and forth under its own steam, and having been
registered for the last 2 years.
before i take it, i'll take some of the harder to find parts from it (rear
trunk liner, am/fm sapphire, some good seals, working clock, original toolkit,
etc.) which could get me up to $500 if i sold them.

it's my daily driver, and whilst i don't need it for work, it does have to be
moved twice a week at least to prevent it from being towed. i can't really
afford to have two cars, either.
i would replace it with another ac vw if i chose the latter option, don't
worry.

what do my fellow listees think?
i'd also gladly sell it to any of you....

sonny
