these flaps as i understand it have nothing to do with youre mixture. they're to control your engine temp. let enough cool air in to keep you engine cool. check your bentley under engine. theyre called air cooling control flaps or something like tõ1èæ ally what happens is they're disabled or outright gone, or else the thermostat that controls them is gone. Whatever, they dont work. In hot places, though, I would think that a PO would be more likely to diable them outright, the symptom would be the reverse: Starting hard in cold weather, never getting up to proper temp. This is in fact my problem. And it sucks if youre in NYC. Anyway, the flaps allow more or less cooling air over the engine. Flaps lodged shut would make your engine too hot. Maybe smell too hot. I dont have the car in front ofme right now but the control mechanism is to the right of the fan housing - just above and behind the heads I THINK. People out there correct me if I'm wrong. Also, see your Bentley. My questionto the list is - would overheating make for a flooding-like symptom? What kind of oil are you using? - -Mike 72 Sqbk, 1600, dual Weber ICT 34s Brooklyn ------------------------------------------------------------------- List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list or mailto:help@vwtype3.org
