No; I have a Squareback fitted with a 'new' tailgate lock, so I now have 2
different keys.  You have the original tailgate lock and ignition lock, and
probably door locks, although they are easy to change internally to match
the other(s).
VW say new tailgate and ignition lock barrels cannot be altered to use the
same key as before.  The glovebox uses a different profile key.
