You're right, Jim, but I don't think Per said otherwise. Variant = VW's name for what you call Squareback in the US. The earliest (1961)brochures I have, when convertable Notches and T3 Ghias were being planned, call it a Station Car in the English version (for Canada?) and a Variant in the German booklet. Dave.
