JimA=> Backfire is caused by overrunning the engine with the throttle
=> closed ...
This may be true, but exhaust leaks also cause pops. Witness my '78 FI
camper, which popped like a sumbitch all the way down my hill every time
until I finally got the exhaust welded up. No pops since.
And not to be pedantic, but just to keep the faith, we must be reminded
occasionally -- backfire is when you actually get fire up through the
carb, a much more serious symptom than exhaust popping.
