JimA=> That pressure isn't really that important, is it? I wonder about that as well. I've heard anecdotally that switching to the T3 pump makes a substantial difference in wide-open performance. I have an electric pump, so I can't say about the mechanical pump from direct experience, but on hearing about this spec difference I reset my regulator from 3.5 to 5lbs. I can't point to a specific performance change, but the fuel system *seems* happier, whatever that's worth. => Did you know that the type 3 carb uses a different float valve? Good eye! I also wonder which carbs are being compared. I notice that the 5lb pump (VW6) is specified for T-prefix engines, i.e. '66-'67, with no reference to earlier T3s, so maybe this is only for 1hm0Ă“nother funny detail: on the facing page, we're told that on later T engines, the pilot jet tube is larger, the air correction jets smaller, and the float valve gets a thinner gasket. I have the feeling that close study of Without Guesswork could lead to a lot of small adjustments. '70-up owners: Get your copy while you can! This is a terrific little reference work, and thanks again Jim for making it available. One little non-intuitive adjustment recently made a big difference for me. I was getting an annoying hesitation on acceleration that I'd been blaming on the 009 distributor, but on reflection it felt like it could be flooding, so I tried adjusting the accelerator pumps for less fuel flow. This seemed an odd thing to do with big-valve heads, but it worked like a charm.
