Hi: I'm new to the list. I don't have a type 3 yet, but I'm in the market. One I've seen recently that seems like a good deal is a '68 Squareback. The current owner is a mechanic, and he was preparing it to drive cross country/camp out in, so he rebuilt the engine and replaced many parts. However the only thing that seems odd is that he used a bug block. The only idiosyncracy involved in this, he tells me, is that the normal type 3 style dipstick and oil adding cap won't work, as the block doesn't reach them, and to add/check the oil, one has to pop open the engine compartment and do it there. Does that sound fishy? He also installed a bug type exhaust system, which he says gives about 3 or 4 more horsepower. Otherwise, it looks very nice. It's white, with red vinyl interior in very good shape, and the engine looks clean as a whistle. Advice? Thanks very much, Scott ------------------------------------------------------------------- List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list or mailto:help@vwtype3.org
