In theory you could size a resistor to drop the voltage, but in the 
long run that would just be messy and leave you with dangling parts 
that would likely short out someday and make you wish you had gone 
the other route.

I think all the 12V Solex choke elements are the same and they will 
be easier to find and cheaper to buy than the 6V ones. You, and 
everyone else should come out ahead by selling your old ones.
