Clutch pedal free play is hard to judge because there is supposed to be a clutch return spring on the side of the tranny case, wrapped around the clutch arm. I would wager that more than half of the collective springs on listee's cars are broken. They can be a bear to replace, but only with tension on the cable from the rear can you make a good judgment of free play. The important thing is that there be SOME free play, but it is foolish to adjust this to a minimum because as the clutch wears the freeplay diminishes.
