I dislike the solid inserts because they come out with the plugs and cause the threads to wear a bit more each time. The thread for the solid inserts is also a bit bigger than a Helicoil tap, so you can't go that direction. I don't see how the serrated threads on a solid insert can he ะse the serrations must be below the diameter where the can dig into the head or you couldn't screw them in. A CORRECTLY installed Helicoil is a permanent and excellent fix, but, as in many things, there are many ways to screw them up.
