In a message X束Z-01-28 19:19:56 EST, you write: <<There is no substitute for the old HEAT WRENCH! Heat them up with a torch (very dull red is more than hot enough), let them cool a moment, and then just unscrew them. If these are cooling tin screws, heating the nut side is most effective. >> Recommend not using the torch on the screws threaded into the aluminum heads or block (type 4). It just causes further galling when you go to unscrew. The torch is great on the steel nuts on the sheet metal....but aluminum, steel, and heat usually don't mix. Sometimes, I have gotten these loose by "whacking" them with a hammer (to jar the threads axially) and then using Vice Grips to unscrew.... but I usually end up drilling these out in step sizes after center-punching. Another tip: Use anti-sieze on all aluminum-steel threaded interfaces...do yourself a favor for the next time....or be kind to the next owner!
