Last night I got under the belly of my beloved Squareback, determined to get better performance from the heating system, as I have had a hard time getting the frost off the windows. I like to drive her all seasons, but I don't like to freeze... After verifying that all the hoses and clamps were okay, I discovered that the heater chambers were quite rusted up around the exhaust pipes - I could stick my fingers inside... Aha! This must be were all the air pressure and heat got lost! With small pieces of aluminium net and a lot of "Gun Gum" paste, i managed to seal the heaters around the pipes, and believe me - what a difference! Now I have such a flow in the defrosters that even small gravel and dirt that have resided in the channels flushes over the windshield when I'm revving the engine... Wow! And the temperature inside the cabin has raised considerably (almost too much!). - Steamy windows - goodbye! ;-) OK, I admit... This ain't the prettiest way to fix this, but well worth trying to keep the cold out, at least for one winter... new heaters ain't cheap, either. Another question: Is there anyone on the list that have a manual to a EberspŠcher gas heater, model BN2, type 20-1390 (late model with "dose pump", or whatever it's called). If so, I would like a Xerox copy of it. Of course you will be rewarded. /Karl-Olov Sandin -73 Squareback …rnskšldsvik, Sweden ------------------------------------------------------------------- List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list or mailto:help@vwtype3.org
