Greetings, I just wanted to post what I found in my vents after I mentioned that I tried to ensure that they were clean. The culprits leading to their total rusty demise were pine needles. Yes, pine needles -- maybe tamarack. The fell through the screen on the vent intakes and twisted from getting soaked and drying out. They formed a ball that allowed air to pass soaked up water and held it there against the metal. That eventually rusted the metal, which flaked off creating more mass to hold water, etc. What a mess. The vents were most rust than water. Moral? Remove the vents from the car at least every five years to clean them and repair any rust you see. If one does this, they should have no trouble with water dripping on their feet.
