I have a VW shop manual -- like the parts books... except it is for the local manufacture of shop tools for volkswagens.... It has MANY tools that can be made for use in working on VWs ( and yes there are some type 3 tools listed in it) in this book it shows actual full page size ( most are double page fold outs ) blueprints with material list.... one of the tools it shows is for swing axle VWs it is a bracket that mount to the transmission frame horn and in the middle of the bracket is a large caster wheel .... in effect the car with out the tranny is supported by three wheels, and is able to be moved around freely.......
