It probably has to do with what each list does with the message
header when it forwards it. I see that your message came to me from
the type3 list carrying the following header:

>Date forwarded: Tue, 5 Jan 1999 11:34:52 -0500
>Date sent: Tue, 05 Jan 1999 08:18:12 -0800

Thus this message was FROM: Cary, and FORWARDED BY: our list.
Your email program just looks for the FROM: part of the header and
uses that as the default address. In my opinion, our list has done
this properly.

There's a lot of differences in email programs. Some are much easier
to handle and much more versatile than others. I use and recommend
Pegasus Mail which is a free program from New Zealand, available in
the US from www.pegasus.usa.com.

With Pegasus, it is easy to direct my replies to the correct address.
