Boy, you know, these air-cooled cars? They work really well when the cooling system is hooked up! I just went and replaced my bellows this weekend. It was pretty much just a fallacy; something sort of wrinkled to put in the gap between the front of the motor and the body. I never could figure why the f'in little thing always ran so hot. So, I put this new bellows on (the tool at the FLAPS says it's a Mexi-VW, but I'll get to that in a few). It's a little snug, and the little retainer-flaps that keep the hose clamps in place don't work too well, but it seems to be *really* well sealed. I think to myself, 'boy, *that* should help!' Was *I* in for a surprise! Talk about a difference! A total investment of like $19, and the car rips along at 70, strong, no pinging anywhere! She *always* pinged at highway speeds! Now there's *nothing*! Sheesh! How I could be so stupid! So in any event, the monkey at the FLAPS (same FLAPS that had me chasing my tail about FI) also gave me the wrong disc brake pads (the little O's are too far apart, and won't fit on the little sliding rods. But, I couldn't figure a way to get the pads out, short of breaking the two halves of the caliper apart (She's an early 71). This was unbelievably messy, and a tremendous hassle, as I then (obviously) had to bleed the brakes (after not being able to replace the pads). Any help would be greatly appreciated.
