While it is possible that there is a short somewhere, I think it is more likely that you have lost a transistor in the little warning light. I have seen that happen in the late (72-3) warning lights sometimes. Have you been doing any electrical work in the car lately? Make any sparks? I might have another one, or I might be able to repair it with a modern transistor. This should not be hard, but I haven't done it before. I think maybe I have seen the same problem with the late seat belt warning light.
