Take my word for it, I know I just got through fighting it because I had Norton anti virus disabled (for only two days) at the time. If you are on the Internet be sure to have some type of anti virus protection and keep it updated. This virus is relatively new and was not detected with Norton 4.0. You must have the most current definition files (which you can download from Norton web site) in order to catch this and other viruses before they can do any harm. There is a new virus circulating via E-mail. The HAPPY99.EXE virus arrives as an E-mail attachment. If you open or run the attachment, HAPPY99.EXE puts up an attractive fireworks display, which you might mistake for a nifty accessory to the message. However, the program also modifies a system file on your EjÀc. It doesn't destroy files, but sends E-mails and news group postings without a user's knowledge potentially causing network slowdowns or crashing corporate E-mail servers. Once you open this file, all your subsequent, outgoing E-mail messages will very likely include a copy of HAPPY99.EXE as an invisible attachment. It then replicates itself on the message recipient's computer when they run it. While the virus (technically a "worm") is pretty much harmless, it does modify your system (alters the host computer's winsock32.dll file) and attaches itself to your outgoing E-mail's. You will not know that it has done this. Some Virus Scan programs can eliminate this virus, but be forewarned that if you receive an E-mail attachment of HAPPY99.EXE---even if the message is from someone you know and trust--do NOT open or run it. DELETE it from your system immediately.
